This research project focuses on the synthesis of new low molecular weight copper(II) complexes capable of penetrating the brain by simple diffusion across the BBB and specifically recognizing the Aβ peptide and TAU protein aggregates, markers of Alzheimer's disease.
The methodological approach envisaged for this research is the synthesis of new molecules, taking into account the physicochemical aspects of cell membranes, but also at the molecular level, using predictive models for the ability of molecules to cross these membranes (Lipinski rule) and the ability of molecules to cross the BBB (BB log).
